Screenwriting software for indie filmmakers.
Plan and revise the same scenes you write. Cedar keeps your scene plan, notes and versions beside the script, then hands you clean Fountain, FDX and PDF files.

Every scene is a card and a page.
Write a scene heading and the scene appears in your plan. Give it a purpose, a status and a beat. Move the card, and the pages move with it.
01
Plan it
Start from beats or a blank page. Cards hold the summary, status and tags, and never print in the script.
02
Write it
Standard screenplay formatting from the first keystroke. Tab and Enter move you between headings, action, characters and dialogue.
03
Revise it
Name a version before a pass, then compare by scene: what moved, what's new, and what changed inside each one.
Everything a draft needs. Nothing it doesn't.
Tab → Character
Formatting that keeps up
Autocomplete for characters and locations, dual dialogue and a proper title page. Pages laid out in Courier Prime 12pt, the way readers expect.
3 open notes
Notes beside the scene
Revision notes sit next to the scene they're about. Assign them to a co-writer, resolve them, and keep them out of the printed script.

Lose the connection and keep writing in any script you've opened before. Cedar only says saved once its server has your changes.
Your script stays yours.
Cedar is software for writers, not a writer. There's no generative AI in it, and your scripts are never used to train one.
Nothing writes for you
Cedar formats, indexes and compares your work. The words are yours.
Leave with clean files
Export PDF, Fountain and FDX with no watermark, or a full project backup with your notes, comments and versions.

Questions
Something else? Email hello@cedarwriter.com.
Is there a free plan?
No, but you can use everything free for 7 days, with no card. If you don't subscribe, your scripts stay readable and you can export them whenever you like. Co-writers you invite never pay.
Does Cedar use AI to write?
No. There's no generative AI in Cedar, and your scripts are never used to train AI models. If we ever add an assistant, you'll have to switch it on for each project.
Can I bring in a script from another app?
Yes. Import a Fountain or FDX file, and before Cedar creates the project it shows you the scenes, the characters and anything it couldn't carry over. Your original file is kept with the project. PDF and Word files can't be imported yet.
Will my page count match Final Draft?
It'll be close, but not always exact. Cedar lays pages out in standard screenplay format in Courier Prime 12pt, and every app measures fonts and breaks pages a little differently. A different page count never means lost text.
Can I write with a co-writer?
Yes. Invite people as editors, commenters or viewers. Editors write with you live. Commenters and viewers see the drafts you publish to them, not your private notes.
What happens if I lose my connection?
Keep writing in any script you've opened before. Your changes wait on your device and sync when you're back, and Cedar only says saved once its server has them. Planning is read-only until you reconnect.
Who owns what I write?
You do. We store and process your work only to run Cedar. We never sell it or use it to train AI, and you can download any project, or your whole account, at any time.
Does it work on a tablet or phone?
Cedar is built for writing in a browser on a laptop or desktop. On a tablet you can read, review and make basic edits. On a phone you can read and comment.
